Signal-3 at seaports, rainfall to continue

DHAKA: Rainfall is likely to occur at places on Wednesday under the influence of active monsoon over Bangladesh. After evening, it may slightly reduce in capital.

But it may rain on Thursday also in different places of the country, said Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

Sky will remain cloudy to temporary overcast. Light to moderate rain/thunder shower accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur over the area, the met office added.

On the other hand, heavy rainfall from Tuesday night leads to waterlogging in the city.  City dwellers in different area including Shewrapar, Kazipara, Asad gate, Motijheel, Rampura, Shantinagar, Badda, Baridhara are facing immense sufferning due to knee deep water in street.

Meteorologist Arif Hossian said the country witnessed the heavy rainfall under the influence of active monsoon over Bangladesh.

Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal number three, he added.

Meteorology Department said 170 mm, highest of the country, has been recorded in Cox’s bazaar till 6:00am Wednesday. Besides, 64-millimeter rainfalls have been recorded in last 24 hours in Dhaka and neighbourhood.

In last three hours, from 6:00am to 9:00 am, 26-millimeter rainfall has been recorded.

Arif Hossain further said rainfall is likely to occur at places on Wednesday. After evening, rainfall may slightly reduce in capital.  Rainfall is likelt to occur Thursday also.

According to river-port warnings, in association with rain or thunder showers tempo south or south-easterly gusty or squally wind speed 45-60 kph  is likely to occur over the regions of Rajshahi, Rangpur, Bogra, Pabna, Tangail, Mymensingh,  Dhaka, Faridpur, Jessore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barisal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Comilla, Chittagong , Cox’s Bazar And Sylhet wherein riverports shall hoist cautionary signal number one.

Under the influence of  active monsoon over Bangladesh  heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at places over Dhaka, Barisal Chittagong And Sylhet divisions during next 24 hrs commencing 4 pm Tuesday.    

Due to very heavy rainfall landslide may occur at places over the hilly regions of Chittagong and Sylhet divisions.
