Kamrul to be produced before Sylhet court Friday

DHAKA: Kamrul Islam, the prime accused of minor boy Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon killing case, is being taken to Sylhet on Thursday.

He will be produced before local court on Friday, said police headquarters Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Nazrul Islam.

Earlier in the day, he had been brought back home from Saudi Arabia.

On arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, AIG Nazrul said that as Bangladesh have no extradition treaty with Saudi Arabia, we faced huge complexities to bring Kamrul back home.

The accused has been brought to home through Interpol. Police always tried their level best in this regard.

Along with Kamrul, three police officials, who went to Saudi Arabia on October 11, arrived in Dhaka around 3:00pm.

Earlier, foreign ministry said that the Saudi authorities have agreed to deport Kamrul following the joint efforts made by Bangladesh foreign ministry, police headquarters and Bangladesh Mission.

A group of expatriate Bangladeshis caught Kamrul on July 13 and handed over him to Saudi police.

On July 8, a 13-year-old boy Rajon was beaten dead on suspicion of stealing a rickshaw-van in Kumargaon in Sylhet. The video clips of beating, which was posted online, created widespread protest both at home and abroad.
