Rajon murder accused Kamrul sent to jail

SYLHET: A Sylhet court sent Kamrul Islam, the prime accused of minor boy Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon killing case, to jail on Friday morning.

Sylhet metropolitan magistrate Anwarul Haque passed the order when he was produced before it around 10:55am.

Earlier, he has been taken to Sylhet on Thursday night and kept under Kotwali thana custody.

He had been brought back home from Saudi Arabia on Thursday noon. On arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, he had been kept under armed police battalion (APBn) custody.

At the airport, police headquarters Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Nazrul Islam said that as Bangladesh have no extradition treaty with Saudi Arabia, we faced huge complexities to bring Kamrul back home.

The accused has been brought to home through Interpol. Police always tried their level best in this regard.

On July 8, a 13-year-old boy Rajon was beaten dead on suspicion of stealing a rickshaw-van in Kumargaon in Sylhet. The video clips of beating, which was posted online, created widespread protest both at home and abroad.

A group of expatriate Bangladeshis caught Kamrul on July 13 and handed over him to Saudi police.
