JOYPURHAT:  A suspected robber was killed in a gunfight between police and a gang of robber during robbery on Joypurhat-Bogra highway early Saturday.

The 28-year-old Rezaul Islam sustained injuries with bullets on Friday night and succumbed to his injuries at Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College (SZMC) Hospital at dawn, Joypur thana OC investigation Sirajul Islam told banglanews.

He said a gang of robber is conducting robbery by blocking the highway putting tree logs. When a patrol team of police reached the spot, robbers opened fire at them, forcing them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight, leaving Rezaul wounded with bullets in both legs.

However, others members of the gang managed to flee the spot, he added.

The injured was first rushed to Joypurhat Adhunik Hospital and then shifted SZMC hospital.

A case was filed with the police station in this connection, the OC added.
