DHAKA: The 52nd birthday of Sheikh Russell, youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, is being observed in a befitting manner on Sunday.

Russel, also brother of Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, was born at the historic Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi in Dhaka on this day in 1964.
 
He was assassinated along with his father and most other family members on August 15, 1975.

Various political, social and cultural organizations, including Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies have chalked out different programmes to mark the birthday.

The programme includes milad, doa mahfils and discussions apart from placing floral wreaths at Russel's grave at Banani Graveyard.

Later, Dhaka city AL is set to arrange Korankhani, milad and doa mahfils after asr prayers at AL central office in city’s Bangabandhu Avenue.
