Over 50 fishermen abducted in bay

BARGUNA: Sea robbers in the Bay of Bengal abducted at least 50 fishermen along with 25 fishing trawlers from Fairway Boya area, some 110km south-west from Patharghata of the district, early Tuesday.

District fishing trawler owners’ association president Golam Mostafa confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He further said a gang of 25-30 members of Master Bahini attacked the fishermen and looted their food and around 20,000 Hilsha fish worth around Tk 10-lakh.

At a stage, the robbers have taken the abducted fishermen along with 25 trawlers towards the Sunderbans, he added.

Golam Mostafa also said the robbers gave them two mobile phone numbers -- 01709747449 and 01709747445 to contact them.

Barguna district trawler labour union president Abdul Mannan Majhi said that they have been talking to trawler owners to rescue the abducted fishermen.
