DHAKA: Bangladesh ambassador to Japan Masud Bin Momen assured Japanese Diet members and business leaders about top security measures taken by Bangladesh government for all foreign nationals including Japanese living in Bangladesh.
He also urged Japanese MPs and business leaders for their continued engagement and frequent visit to Bangladesh to boost up existing bilateral relations.
Ambassador Masud was speaking at a dinner hosted by Bangladesh embassy in Tokyo in honor of the members of the Japan-Bangladesh Parliamentary Friendship League (JBPFL) in city’s New Otani hotel Tuesday evening.
About a dozen of Diet members as well as 20 top-level Japanese business leaders from Mitsubishi, Toshiba, Toray, Marubeni, Obayashi, Itochu etc. and high level government officials were present on the occasion.
Japan Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister and also the President of Japan-Bangladesh Parliamentary Friendship League Taro Aso, MP attended the event as the Chief Guest.
The Parliamentary League was reconstituted last year with 65 members.
The event began with welcome remarks by Secretary General of the League Ichiro Tsukada, MP.
In his remarks, ambassador Masud Bin Momen congratulated Japan on its election as a permanent member of UN Security Council and mentioned that as a peace loving nation and genuine development partner, Japan always enjoys special respect from the people around the world including Bangladesh.
He urged the members of the Parliamentary League to convey to the Japan government not to be deterred by the recent isolated and heinous act of killing of a Japanese national in Bangladesh and keep the momentum of our decade long economic engagement.
‘In Bangladesh’s march towards prosperity as envisioned by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Japan will remain an important partner,’ Masud noted.
Deputy Prime Minister Taro Aso in his remarks appreciated the launching of 'Comprehensive Partnership' between the two countries last year and pledged for continued Japanese support and cooperation for Bangladesh.
During the event, Masud Bin Momen handed over Japanese translation of Bangabandhu’s Unfinished Memoirs to Deputy Prime Minister Taro Aso and other attendees.
Senior officials of Japanese foreign ministry, and economy, trade and industry ministry briefed the Diet members and businessmen about recent developments in bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Japan.
A video presentation on Bangladesh and background music on popular Bangladesh folk songs was arranged during the dinner.
All the guests were presented with Bangladeshi jute bags and other traditional items sent by Bangladesh Tourism Board.
Bangladesh embassy also organized an IT promotion event yesterday at city’s Shinagawa Prince Hotel.
Ambassador Masud Bin Momen inaugurated the matchmaking B2B event in presence of BASIS President Shameem Ahsan, and Senior Director of JETRO, Takashi Suzuki. About 24 Japanese IT companies and 12 Bangladeshi IT companies participated at the B2B event.
