DHAKA: Law Minister Barrister Shafiq Ahmed said the government cannot be cowed out from the trial of war criminals by issuing threats.

“No one can stop the trial of war criminals by threat or coercion,” he told banglanews24.com.bd.
 
His comment came in the wake of threat over email, which was sent to the Law Commission Chairman stating that important establishments would be blown up in serial attacks if the detained top four Jamaat-e-Islami leaders are not set free before the fast-coming Eid-ul-Fitr.

The Minister said the government is ready to tackle any threat, whatsoever.

He said the government has taken sufficient measures to ensure security of those who are involved with the trial of war criminals.
 
The email message reads: “Different important buildings across the country will be blown up if our four national leaders are not released before Eid. And attacks will be launched on you and police.”

The email containing the threat was sent on August 25.

Barrister Shafique Ahmed said there might be threat to foil the trial of war criminals.

He said the Home Ministry has been notified of the matter.

State Minister for Law Advocate Qamrul Islam and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif told banglanews24.com.bd that the government is not afraid of such threats.
 
Qamrul said a quarter is trying to frighten the government to foil the trial of war criminals. “But the government is ready to tackle any kind of threat.”

The intelligence agencies are active to identify those who sent in the threat
