Sher-e-bangla medical college closed sine die

BARISAL: Barisal Sher-e-bangla Medical College has been closed down for an indefinite period following a clash between two groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) centering formation of committee.

College authorities made the announcement after a meeting of academic council around 3:30pm Wednesday.

Sher-e-bangla medical college vice-principal Dr Maksimul Haque told banglanews that they took the decision to avert further violence on the campus.

After the clash that erupted between two groups of BCL around 2:45pm, the college authorities asked students of three dormitories –Habibur Rahman Hall, Jamilur Rahman Hall and Moinul Haider Hall—to leave halls within 6:00pm on Tuesday.

Though college and male students’ halls have been closed for indefinite period, female hall will remain open, said the college authorities.

Barisal Kotwali Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Sakawat told banglanews that the situation of the campus is now under control of law enforcers.
