DHAKA: A gang of miscreants chopped two writers and a publisher, leaving them critically injured in city’s Lalmatia area Saturday afternoon.
The injured were identified as publishing house Suddhaswar's owner Ahmedur Rashid Tutul, poet Tareq Rahim and writer-researcher Ranadipam Basu.
Mohammadpur Police Station assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed the matter to banglanews around 3:30pm.
He further said a gang of three or four miscreants barged in Suddhaswar office and chopped the trio indiscriminately.
Later, police rescued the injured and rushed them to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), he added.
According to DMCH physicians, the miscreants also shot publisher Tutul.
Meanwhile, injured Tutul and Ranadipam Basu told banglanews senior correspondent Abaduzzaman Shimul that the attack was conducted by extremists.
However, Tutul published several books of blogger Avijit Roy, who was slain on Dhaka University campus on February 26 of this year.
Earlier, Tutul filed a general diary with Mohammadpur Thana after being threatened with death on Facebook following the attack on Avijit Roy and his wife earlier this year.
