CHITTAGONG: A court in Chittagong handed down death penalty to four people and life imprisonment to two others for killing a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver in Boalkhali upazila of Chittagong district.

Chittagong Divisional Public Security Tribunal judge Sayeda Hosne Ara passed the verdict on Monday.

Tribunal PP Advocate M Jahangir Alam informed the matter to banglanews.

The death row convicts include Nurul Alam, Abul Kalam, Kawser and Rubel while life imprisonment recipients are Arif and SM Naimuddin.

Of them, Kawser and Naimuddin are in jail.

Tribunal sources said the accused hired the auto-rickshaw for going to mazar of Mohsen Awlia in Anwara on May 3, 2008. Then, they killed its driver Yusuf while crossing Boalkhali upazila and fled away with the auto-rickshaw.

Later, the owner recovered the auto-rickshaw from Satkania upazila of Chittagong.

Later, Yusuf’s cousin filed murder case with Boalkhali Thana in this connection.
