DHAKA: The government has approved in principle the drafts of two laws to form metropolitan police for Gazipur and Rangpur metropolitan areas.

The draft laws are ‘Gazipur Metropolitan Police Act-2015’ and ‘Rangpur Metropolitan Police Act-2015’.

The approval came from a regular meeting of the cabinet held at secretariat in city on Monday (December 7), with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

After the meeting, additional secretary of the cabinet division Bijoy Bhattacharya informed the matter to reporters.

He said the cabinet gave nod in principle to the drafts of two Acts to ensure police services to citizen of the aforesaid metropolitan areas.
