DHAKA: Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) chairman Md. Badiuzzaman categorically said that there is no pressure from government and the anti-graft body’s investigation process is free from any intervention.

“We are working independently,” he opined.

The ACC chairman made this assertion to the media at ACC headquarters in city Tuesday afternoon.

In response to a question, Badiuzzaman claims, “Government does not instruct whom to be arrested and whom to be freed. There is no pressure at all and the commission is independent”.

While talking about the present condition of the country regarding corruption, the chairman added that corruption does not prevail in big scale, but it is not true that there is no corruption.

“We take actions based on evidence,” he stated.

Citing examples of banking sector, he said, “Corruption in banks has reduced due to ACC in the sector. Now, banks are more careful in sanctioning loans”.

He put importance on ACC’s modernization and acknowledged that, sometimes, high profile people get freed from the commission.

“It is because we don’t have enough evidence to prove their corruption. In order to make ACC more efficient, there is a need to equip it with modern technology,” he added.
