BPL 2015, Match #15: Dhaka Dynamites Vs Chittagong Vikings played at SBNCS Dhaka on 8 December 2015
Dhaka Dynamites 121/8 (KC Sangakkkara 38, Mosaddek Hossain 24, MN Waller 19, Mohammad Amir 3/24, Shafiul Islam 3/ 21) beat Chittagong Vikings 76 All Out (Musharraf Hossain 4/16, Mustafizur Rahman 2/7) by 45 Runs
Player of the Match: Musharraf Hossain (Dhaka Dynamites)
Chittagong Vikings were served the last nail in the coffin when they were crashed to 76 chasing a relatively easy target of 122 in their do or die match of the BPL 2015.
Chittagong Vikings desperately required winning its Dhaka leg matches to have a last minute qualification for semifinal berth for BPL 2015. Their very incisive bowling attack ably commanded by Mohammad Amir and Shafiul Islam kept them in the hunt.
The match witnessed the much talked about duel between Hafiz and Amir. Professor Hafiz lost his wicket after being humiliated by his compatriot Amir with whom he denied to appear in the same team.
Dynamites were restricted to a moderate score of 121 /8. But Vikings batted poorly getting crashed out for only 76. Musharraf’s spin and Mustafiz cutter appeared too hot to handle. Dynamites confirmed its qualification for the semifinals while Vikings were crashed out of the tournament.
Vikings with Taskin, Amir and Shafiul had the most potent bowling attack. But their batsmen failed time and again causing their miserable ultimate performance.
Choosing to field Vikings bowlers bowled to a plan restricting the Dynamites with penetrative bowling and tight fielding. Sangakkara sent Yasir Shah to open the batting to offset Mustafiz impact. But the ploy did not work.
Shaiful combined effectively with Mustafiz in making early inroads into Dynamites camp. Yasir, Shykat, Mohammad Hafiz and Nasir Hossain were sent back by 8th over with only 35 on the board. The most interesting duel was between Amir and Hafiz.
Amir won the round comprehensively fooling Hafiz with a beautiful deceiving out swinger. Maestro Sangakkara along with Mossadek led the recovery with a 56 runs 5th with partnership before Shafiul Islam sent both of them back.
Malcolm Waller delivered few lusty blows at the last stage to add valuable runs. Still 121 /8 against a star studded Vikings batting did appear 20 runs short at mid-way stage. Mohammad Amir 3/24 and Shafiul Islam 3/21 appeared too hot to handle for the Dynamites batsmen.
Vikings had to bat sensibly and grab the opportunity with both hands. But they failed and their spineless batting led to their demise. Top order batting of Tamim, Dilshan, Anamul and Yasir failed to show any character. They threw away their wickets in gay cavalier fashion. There were no commitments or plan.
Umer Akmal tried a bit. But by then Musharraf Rubel was weaving his spin magic. A combination of Musharraf Spin and Mustafiz pace triggered collapse. Vikings were bundled out for 76 and were eliminated from BPL 2015. The will play their last match as mere formality now.
Dynamites confirmed their semifinal berth in style. Musharraf won the man of the match and for his four wickets haul won the motor bike.
Vikings with Amir, Shafiul, Taskin and Bilwal possessed the most lethal bowling attack. Tamim and Dilshan were the most aggressive T20 batsmen. There must have been something wrong in the team chemistry, which let them lose matches after matches.
Dynamites on the other hand have limited resources. Sangakkara marshalled his resources very intelligently proving that it is not only big names in the team that win matches. Winners have to deliver to their potential and deliver consistently. Mission BPL2015 for the Vikings is unfortunately over.
Anyway it witnessed return of the talented Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir who had to stay out for 5 years from international cricket serving ban for disciplinary reasons. He has so much left in him to deliver to world cricket.
We are sure he will soon be rehabilitated in Pakistan team irrespective of what few of his ex-team mates feel about him.
