HABIGANJ: One of the main accused of four-child murder case in Bahubal of Habiganj district was killed and two cops injured in an alleged gunfight with a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at deorgachh area under Chunarughat upazila of the district early Thursday (February 25).
The deceased was identified as Bacchu Mia.
RAB-9 Sreemangal company commander Qazi Moniruzzaman told banglanews that they detained a person, Shahid, from Biswanath in Sylhet while conducting drives in various areas to hold the accused.
He further said, “While quizzing, Shahed told them that Bacchu will enter India through Deorgachh area at night. Knowing the matter, RAB members conducted a drive in the area.”
“But, sensing their presence, cohorts of Bacchu opened fire to them, in response, RAB members also opened firing to defend themselves, leaving Bacchu dead on the spot and two RAB members injured,” he added.
RAB members recovered one 9MM pistol and two rounds of bullets from the spot, Qazi Moniruzzaman added.
On February 19, Habiganj police super Joydeb Kumar Bhadra said one of the participants, Rubel Mia, 17, of the killing mission confessed that a team of six-member took part in the killing after an order from Abdul Ali alias Bagol Mia over previous clash.
Earlier on February 18, four kids were found dead near Ichharbil canal in Sundratiki village under Bahubal upazila after five days of their missing.
The deceased kids were identified as Zakaria Shuvo (8), Monir Mia (7), Tajel Mia (10) and Ismail Mia (10). Three of them were cousins.
