DHAKA: President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid tributes to the martyred army officials, killed during Pilkhana carnage in 2009, by placing floral wreaths at their graves at Banani graveyard in city on Thursday morning (February 25).
Later, Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman and former army chief HM Ershad, home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and chiefs of three services also placed floral wreaths at the graves.
After paying rich tributes, they observed one minute’s silence in honour of the victims of carnage and offered munajat seeking salvation of their souls.
Meanwhile, near and dear ones of the assassinated army personnel also paid their tributes to the martyrs by placing floral wreaths.
On this day February 25 in 2009, several hundred BDR soldiers took up weapons against their superior officers at Darbar Hall coinciding with the “BDR Week” inside the Pilkhana and killed 74 people including the then BDR chief Major General Shakil Ahmed and 56 officers.
The 36-hour-long mutiny finally ended on the next day when the mutineers were forced to lay down their weapons.
On February 28, two cases were filed with Lalbagh police station in city under murder and explosives act.
