Justice Enayetur Rahim new Chair of SC Legal Aid body

DHAKA: Justice M Enayetur Rahim has been made the new chairman of the legal aid committee of the Supreme Court. 

Justice Enayetur Rahim has replaced his predecessor Justice Mohammad Nizamul Huq.

Justice Nizamul Huq, earlier, has been promoted to the appellate division of the apex court.

Additional registrar Sabbir Foyez of the High Court division has informed that Justice Rahim would join the legal aid office from March 1.

On 8 September last year, Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha inaugurated the legal aid office to serve with free legal aid to the people whose annual income below Tk 1.5-lakh. Previously, a Supreme Court Legal Aid Committee has been formed.

At that time, Mohammad Nizamul Huq, chairman of International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) and Justice of the High Court Division, was made the chairman of this committee. Eleven other members of the body include human rights workers and lawyers.

Actually, the main body consists of 10 members, including its chairman, while two others are observers.

Justice Nizamul Huq took oath as justice of the appellate division on February 8. Later, Justice Enayetur Rahim has replaced him as new chairman on February 18.

Justice M Enayetur Rahim has been employed to the High Court as an additional Justice on June 30, 2009.  His appointment has been regularized after two years in 2011.

Later he has been appointed to the ICT as a Chairman on 23 February 2014. He was brought back to the High Court on 15 September 2015.

Enayetur Rahim was born on 11 August, 1960. He completed Master’s degree from the Mass Communication and Journalism from Dhaka University.

Later, he obtained LLB degree and has been enlisted as a lawyer of High Court on 1989. He has also worked as an additional attorney general.
