DHAKA: The historic March 7 was celebrated across the country. On the day in 1971, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman delivered his fiery speech at the then Race Course Maidan (now Suhrawardi Udyan) that inspired Bangalis to prepare them for fighting Pakistani-junta during the liberation war.
To mark the day, ruling Awami League (AL), its front organizations chalked out various programs.
The programs included the hoisting national and party flags atop of the all AL offices and Bangabandhu Memorial, placing floral wreaths at portrait of Father of the Nation in front of Bangabandhu memorial in city's Dhanmondi area.
Besides, AL organized a mass rally at Suhrawardi Udyan in the afternoon. Prime Minister and also AL president Sheikh Hasina attended the rally as chief guest.
President Abdul Hamid and PM Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages on the eve of the historic day.
In his speech, the President said the historic 7 March speech will remain perennial source of inspiration for Bangali nation.
However, Bangabandhu delivered his speech in front of gigantic crowds saying ‘it is the war of emancipation; it is the war of independence’.
Besides, Bangladesh Television (BTV), Bangladesh Betar, and private TV channels aired special programs and newspapers published supplementary to mark the day.
