5 missing in Buriganga trawler capsize

RUPGANJ, NARAYANGANJ:  Five people went missing as a trawler with 40 passengers on board capsized in river Buriganga in Sadar upazila of Narayanganj district on Saturday.

The incident took place in Kheya ghat area at Alir Tek union around 11:30am.

The missing persons are — Selim Khan, 45, Imran Khan, 15, Mousumi, 16, Abdul Kadir, 50 and Selim Mia, 50.

Witnesses said while crossing Buriganga river, the trawler carrying 30 to 40 passengers capsized this morning after being hit by a passenger launch.

All but five passengers swam ashore.

Narayanganj fire service and civil defense deputy assistant director Dinomoni Shahrma told banglanews that seven divers are conducting search drives to rescue the missing people.
