DHAKA: Lakhs of Bangladeshis on Wednesday sang the National Anthem and took oath at Suhrawardy Udyan in city where Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman delivered historic speech on March 7 in 1971.
The singing of national anthem began at 4:31pm. Later, the participants took oath to be united to fight radicalism in the country.
Noted economist Professor Abul Barkat administered the oath taking ceremony.
One of the organizers of liberation war artiste Hasan Imam, noted writer Muhammad Jafar Iqbal and Ganajagaran Mancha convener Dr Imran H Sarker were, among others, present here.
Assistant general secretary of Udichi Shilpi Gosthi Sangeeta Imam told banglanews that not lakhs, rather, crores of people took part in the event as people from each and every district and upazilas participated.
Earlier, the members of martyrs’ families were paid homage.
