MEHERPUR: A ringleader of robbers was beaten to death by angry mob in Chaltatola area at Ashrafpur village in Meherpur Sadar early hours of Monday.

The dead person was identified as Ijarul Islam, 41, hailed from Bhabnandapur village of same upazila.

On the other hand, Harez, 14, son of Saudi expatriate Mintu Sheikh and his neighbor Rashid, 42.

Police recovered a shutter gun and a Chinese axe from the spot.

Meherpur Sadar Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Ahsan Habib told banglanews that a gang of 14/15 robbers robbed the house of Saudi expatriate Mintu Sheikh around 1:30am.

Wife of Mintu Sheikh caught a robber while fleeing the house with cash and gold ornaments. Hearing her scream, locals rushed to spot and gave the robber good beating, leaving him injured critically.

On information, police rescued the injured and sent to Meherpur General Hospital where duty doctor declared him dead.

The OC also said that Ijarul was accused in 15 cases with Meherpur Sadar, Gangni and Mujibnagar for killing, robbery, mugging and extortion.
