Holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi observed with due solemnity

DHAKA: Holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi, the birth anniversary of the Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), was celebrated on Friday (December 25) across the country with religious zeal and fervor.

The celebration started on the eve of 12 Rabiul Awal of Hijri calendar with discussions, milad-mahfil and special prayers seeking peace and prosperity of mankind.

On this day in 570 Hijri, the Prophet was born in Makkah with divine blessings and messages of peace. He also passed away on the same day in 632 Hijri in Medina.

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday greeted the countrymen and the Muslims across the world on the occasion of the day.

In separate messages on the eve of the day, they underscored the need for following the ideals of the Prophet for peace and prosperity.

In his message, President Abdul Hamid said Allah had sent Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) to this world as a blessing for the entire universe.

The Prophet has been successful to discharge his duty of establishing 'tawhid' in the world with his efficiency, greatness, tolerance, hard work, devotion and limitless sufferings, he added.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, said Allah had sent Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) as 'Rahmatullil Alamin'.

The Prophet had emerged as the savior in the world filled with sinful acts, repression, falsehood, prejudice and conflicts, she added.

He had established brotherhood, justice and equity-based society.

She expressed firm conviction that the peace and welfare could be ensured in the current turbulent world by following the ideals of the Prophet (PBUH).

Moreover, tight security measures were taken across the country for peaceful observance of the day.

Plain clothes police personnel along with uniformed ones had also been deployed to avert any untoward situation.

Besides, check posts have been set up at the strategic points across the country to provide additional security.

Various religious, socio-political and cultural organizations chalked out elaborate programs in the capital and elsewhere in the country marking the day.

Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and private television channels as well as radio stations aired special programs, while newspapers published supplements highlighting the significance of the day.

Meanwhile, Islamic Foundation is holding a fortnight-long program including a 'book fair' at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on the occasion of the Miladunnabi.

National Press Club in city organized a doa mahfil and discussion after Asr prayers on the day.

Dhaka City unit of Awami League also held a milad and doa mahfil at its party office on Bangabandhu Avenue at 4:00pm on the day.
