Army officer held with phensidyl in Faridpur

FARIDPUR: Police held an army major as three bottles of phensidyl narcotic syrup was allegedly found in his bag during search on a bus Sunday night at Modhukhali rail gate in the district.

He was identified as Shibbir Ahmed, an officer of East Bengal Regiment Center (Training Battalion) at Chittagang cantonment.

Police sources said according to his passport Shibbir went to India for treatment some 27 days before.

On his return, he boarded a passenger bus from Benapole to Dhaka on Sunday. “As police went on a regular check on the bus at Modhukhali rail-gate at night, they searched Shibbir on suspicion and seized three bottles of phensidyl from his bag,” said one source.

The thana sources said a case was registered under the Narcotics Control Act with Madhukhali thana in this connection.

Madhukhali thana OC Syed Mohsinul Haque told banglanews24.com.bd that they handed over the army man to a team come from Jessore cantonment early Monday.
