DHAKA: Housing and public works minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain categorically said that solar panels will be installed at all government offices by two years.

He made this disclosure while speaking as chief guest at a seminar titled ‘Prospect of solar panel installation on rooftop’ at Bidyut Bhaban in city on Sunday (December 27).

‘The government is putting importance on solar power as country’s gas reserve is gradually decreasing,’ he said.

The minister also said that the government is planning to transmit electricity to Sandwip island through national grid.

PM’s power, energy and mineral resources adviser Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury as special guest said that the installation cost of solar panel is not an issue.



‘The issue is the difficulties come from solar panel installation and its maintenance,’ he added.

He also advised Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) to remove these sorts of difficulties.

One of the speakers Architect Mobashwer Hossain said that corruption exists in installation of solar panels at apartments.

‘Many of the apartment owners hire solar panels to ensure power connection from the government. Many install lower quality panels just as a show. For these reasons, nation is not getting the benefit of solar power.’



One of the special guests, state minister for power, energy and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid opined that they should strengthen monitoring and also provide counseling to inspire people in using solar panel.

Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) president Shamsul Al Amin in the discussion expressed the organization’s eagerness in the investment to the major projects of solar panel.

Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA) chairman Anwarul Islam Shikdar presided over the program.
