DHAKA: Government is set to deploy Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel from early Monday in municipal election areas till January 1.
They will be working as striking force during the polls.
Election Commission (EC) sources confirmed the matter saying that among the 234 municipality six areas will also be guarded by 200 members of Coast Guards.
The number of BGB members has been allocated according to the number of voters of the poll areas.
Less than a platoon BGB member will be deployed in the areas where the voter number is less than 10,000 and a platoon of members will be deployed in the areas where the number of voters is from 10,000 to 50,000.
More than a platoon of BGB men for the areas less than one lakh voters and two platoons for the areas of more than one lakh of voters.
However, the municipal election will be held on December 30 in 234 municipality areas across the country.
A total of 72 lakhs voters will cast their votes in the election.
