Draft of BNCC act gets cabinet nod

DHAKA: With the provision of formation of directorate, the draft of ‘Bangladesh National Cadet Corps Act-2015’ has received the cabinet nod in principle.

The approval came from a regular meeting of the cabinet held at secretariat in city on Monday (December 28), with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

After the meeting, cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam informed the matter at a press briefing.

He said that the head office of the directorate will be located in the capital, but branches in outside Dhaka will be allowed if required.

BNCC, a voluntary reserve defense force, has been running its activities since 1979 under a law enacted in 1950, the secretary added.

In the draft act, responsibilities, role and discipline have been endorsed. Directorate, director general, officer and other required issues were also explained in the act.

Advisory and disciplinary committees were also recommended.

The main objective of the formation of law is to organize the existing cadet corps of Bangladesh, he added.

The secretary further said that as per recommendation of public administration, finance ministry and secretary committee, manpower will be recruited for the force.
