DHAKA: The development story of Bangladesh is an inspiration to the leaders and people of Bhutan.
Dr. Dasho Sonam Kinga, Chairperson (Speaker), National Council of Bhutan (Upper House of Bhutanese Parliament) stated this while calling on Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, MP, in the ministry on Monday.
The foreign ministry issued a press release in this regard.
Dr. Kinga was leading a 12-member Parliamentary delegation from Bhutan to Bangladesh.
The release also said the main objective of the visit to Bangladesh was to learn the best practices of parliamentary democracy in Bangladesh, as stated by the delegation members.
The delegation is also keen to gain experience of the overall digitization process in Bangladesh, it added.
Mentioning the struggle of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the delegation leader Dr. Kinga observed that the story of the Father of the Nation is ‘difficult to believe but true’.
He also accolades the strong and positive leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for attaining self reliance in food production, improvement in health, education and Information technology sectors, women’s empowerment, and leading climate change issues globally.
Other delegation members appreciated women’s participation in politics and the progress in information technology in Bangladesh.
Foreign Minister Mahmud Ali reiterated Bangladesh’s interest to import electricity from Bhutan and to participate in Bhutan’s future power projects.
In response to various queries from the delegation, Foreign Minister Mahmud Ali enlightened the delegation regarding various aspects of the parliamentary democratic system of Bangladesh; the process of attaining digital Bangladesh, women empowerment, and different innovative ideas of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the betterment of the people of Bangladesh.
