DHAKA: Narcotics control department has imposed ban on clubs, bars and DJ parties from 6:00pm Thursday (December 31) to 6:00pm Friday (January 1) across the country ahead of December 31 night and New Year celebration of Gregorian calendar.

However, the five-star and three-star hotels will remain open for foreigners for attending the celebration parties, the statement said.

Earlier on Monday noon, Department of Narcotics Control director general Rakibur Rahman in a press conference at its main office in city’s Tejgaon area said that legal action will be taken against the violators of the order.

However, Detective Branch (DB) of police members will remain alert to avert any untoward situation during the celebration.

The mobile team of law enforcers and DB branch of narcotics control department will patrol city streets at night.

The DG also requested the Islamic Foundation to take necessary measures so that the imams of all mosques deliver sermons about the bad impact of using narcotics.

Moreover, the department has opened two hotlines 01708904454 and 028870012 where the affected people can complain or someone can give information regaring the illegal drug uses from 9:00am to 5:00pm every day except Fridays and Saturdays.
