DHAKA: At least five police officials have been suspended on charge of irregularities during municipal elections.
Of them, three were on duty at three polling centers in Chandanaish municipality of Chittagong and the rest of two were suspended from Kalkini of Madaripur.
The Election Commission (EC) has postponed voting at the five aforesaid polling centers for irregularities.
Later, the five police officers have been suspended for their alleged irregularities during discharging election duties.
In Kalkini municipality, according to the letter of returning officer sent to the EC secretary, 500 ballots were found stuffed at South Jonardondi Government Primary School before voting begins.
Some 801 out of 1436 ballots for mayoral and councilor posts were missing at Kastorghar Government Primary School, the letter also stated.
