GAZIPUR: An elderly person and his five-year-old grandson were crushed under the wheels of a train in Kaliakoir upazila on Monday morning.

The deceased were identified as Shamsul Islam, 70, and his grandson Shihab, hailed from Goalbathan village.

Local businessman Mozzamal Haq said Dhaka-bound Khulna Sundarban Express ran over them at 9 am when Shamsul went to the rescue of his grandson who stood on the Joydebpur-Rajshahi rail line ignoring whistle of the train.

Later the bodies of the victims were sent to their relatives.

About the tragic incident Tongi camp SI Md Ali Akbar, a railway police, said that he heard the news from reporters. “But the railway department has not yet informed police about the accident.”
