DHAKA: Dhaka University students staged a demonstration on the campus on Sunday night in protest against the ransacking of a temple at Gosaildanga in Chittagong.

After parading the campus thoroughfares in a procession, several hundred students of different halls held a rally at Raju Sculpture in front of the TSC, demanding arrest and “exemplary punishment” of those responsible for the vandalism.

They alleged that incident of temple ransacking is taking place recurrently because of “the laxity of the administration in taking strict action against the perpetrators”.

The students will sit for a view-exchange meeting at Jagannath Hall on Monday night to fix the next plan of action.

A temple was vandalized by a gang of drunks at Gosaildanga in the port city on Saturday night.

Witnesses said some 5/6 drunken youths attacked Gosaildanga Shwashan Kalibari Temple at around 11 pm and damaged idols and other valuables.

In the meantime, some influential “land grabbers” took hold of the 300-year-old Sri Sri Radhakanto Janardan Jeu temple at South Maishundi under Sutrapur thana in the capital on the night of August 12.
