DHAKA: The results of this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations were published Saturday with fairly a high pass percentage of 79.98 – 9 steps up the previous year’s mark.
The Education Ministry said the examinations took place under 10 educational boards of the country in which 960,492 students passed out successfully out of total 120,0975 examinees.
In the ranking as per certain set criteria, the Madrasa Education Board was on top of all the boards while the new-comer Dinajpur Board was lagging behind all in securing GPA-5.
Of the 10 education boards, Rajshahi board topped the list in pass percentage showing 85.61pecent, while Comilla Board 81.03, Jessore 79.18, Sylhet 78.42, Dhaka 77.99, Barisal 74.64 Chittagong 72.31, Dinajpur 71.70. The Madrasah Board secured 86.70 and Technical Education Board 82.72 percent.
A total of 82,961 students secured GPA-5 this year, breaking the records of the last 10 years after the introduction of the grading system.
Dhaka Board led the ranking ladder in GPA-5 with 21,142 students while the Madrasa Board followed with a total of 20,775.
With only 72 GPA-5, the Technical Education Board stood on the lowest rung.
Of the schools, Rajuk Uttara Model High School and College clinched the first position under Dhaka Board (94.29 percent) while Dhaka Residential Model College secured second (92.79 percent) and Ideal School and College, Motijheel, grabbed third (92.52 percent) in pass percentage of students.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid announced the publication of the SSC results at noon from a press conference at his office. Earlier, the Minister handed over the result books to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office.
The Minister said, “The success came with cooperation of students, parents, teachers and government along with the journalists.”
“Now the government is poised to increase the number of seats in colleges,” he told the journalists to allay apprehensions about admission hassles in advance.
A total of 271,523 candidates sat for the examination under Dhaka Board and 211,761 passed. A total of 21,142 of them got GPA-5.
Under Rajshahi Board, 133,895 students appeared in the examination while 114,629 came out successfully. Of the successful examinees, 60,005 were male and 54,624 female. A total of 10,528 obtained GPA-5.
In Comilla Board, 100,250 students appeared while 82,694 passed. Of them, 42,129 were male and 40565 female. A total of 5,863 obtained GPA-5 where 3495 were male and 2368 female.
Jessore Board’s 102,319 students took part in the examination while 97,403 passed. Among them, 51,147 were male students and 46,256 female. From this Board, 7399 students became top-graders.
In Chittagong Board 68,386 students attended the examination and 49,451 passed. Of them, 25,113 were male and 24338 female. Among them, 5800 students got GPA-5.
In Barisal Board, 55,342 students sat for the examination and 41,309 passed. Of them, 21,495 were male and 19814 female. A total of 2751 students got GPA-5.
In Sylhet Board, 41,233 students attended the examination and 83,977 passed. Among them, 15,553 are male and 16783 female. Total numbers of the students who obtained GPA-5 were 1148 male and 829 female.
In Dinajpur Board 117,129 students sat for the examination and 83,977 came out successfully. Of them, 42,944 were male and 41033 female. Some 6,634 students got GPA-5.
In the Madrasa Education Board 210,419 attended the examination where 182,431 passed. Among them, 99,194 were male and 83,237 female students. The total number of GPA –5 holders is 20,755: 14,610 male and 6,145 female.
In the Technical Board 77,979 attended the examination where 64,501 passed. Among them, 45,711 were male and 18790 female students.
