DHAKA: Two cops were punished for neglect of their duties in Pabna and Nilphamari on Sunday night.

They are Mohammad Motiar Rahamn, Officer-in-Charge of Nabinagar police station in Pabna, and Mojammel Hossain, Sub-Inspector of Syedpur police station in Niphamari.

Shahin Rahman, correspondent of banglanews in Pabna, informed that Motiar was closed to the police lines as he failed to perform his duty properly when the ruling party activists forced to halt the recruitment examination of third-class staff members of the deputy commissioner office.

Local leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Jubo League allegedly launched an attack on the examination centre and forced to halt the recruitment tests.
They also vandalized at least four vehicles, assaulted government officials, snatched away the examination scripts and admit cards from the candidates and burnt them in the examination centre.
Besides, Israt Jahan Pallabi, correspondent from Nilphamari, reported that Mojammel, Sub-Inspector, was arrested allegedly on extortion charge in Syedpur.

“Police seized from him Tk 15,000 which he extorted,” said Officer-in-Charge of Syedpur police station Ismail Hossain.
