DHAKA: Documents of Awami League leader Ibrahim murder case were handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) from the Detective Branch of Police Monday, as controversies clouded the course of investigation.

Earlier on Saturday, the case was transferred to the CID to break the mystery, as complications compounded centering round an MP of the ruling party.

During handing over the documents at 5 pm Monday, Investigation Officer of the case Additional Police Commissioner (ASP) of CID’s Dhaka Metropolitan Zone Khandakar Abdul Halim told banglanews that investigation into the case would be carried out carefully by marking it ‘very sensational’.

Replying to a question Khandakar Halim said, “There is no chance of wasting time in breaking the mystery over the murder.”

Assistant Deputy Commissioner of DB North Zone-2 Moniruzzaman told banglanews that the CID actually examined the probe reports prepared by the DB police.

He observed the DB had reached nearly the finishing point of investigation into the Ibrahim murder case. “But it applied to hand over the case to the CID to avert controversy and to ensure more transparency of the investigation.”

ASP Khandakar Abdul Halim said the CID has more experience than DB in investigating sensational cases.

A local Awami League leader and probable city corporation councilor candidate from DCC Ward No 56, Ibrahim died from a pistol fire in Sangsad Bhaban area on August 13. It was reportedly the MP’s licensed pistol.

Later, the MP’s followers took the bullet-hit body of Ibrahim to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue and fled.

Shaon’s car driver, Kalam Hossain Kala, filed an Unnatural Death (UD) case with Sher-e-banglanagar police station in this connection.

According to UD case statement, Ibrahim was hit by bullet while handling pistol in MP Shaon’s car.

Later on August 18, victim’s brother Masum Ahmed filed a murder case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, implicating the ruling-party lawmaker, Nurunnabi Chowdhury Shaon, and others.

Shaon’s car driver, Kalam Hossain Kala, and personal assistant Sohel were shown arrested in connection with the murder.

Kala gave confessional statement on the killing of Ibrahim before the court after a three-day remand. Now both are in jail custody.

DMP commissioner AKM Shahidul Haque, on September 7, said at a press meet that Shaon had no involvement in the incident of Ibrahim murder.

Thereafter, Ibrahim’s wife and others raised an allegation against DB, the investigation agency, of negligence in investigation and of partiality.

Shaon, however, denied his involvement in Ibrahim killing during the interrogation on Wednesday night.
