DHAKA: Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad on Tuesday alleged that the government is insulting Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus.

The former president of the country came up with the allegation in a statement.

Ershad said, “Dr Yunus is not a general people. He is the first Nobel winner in the country and founder of Grameen Bank.”

He added: “When I am in power I had given the approval of the Grameen Bank in 1983. I thought Grameen Bank can contribute to country’s economy but the government is trying to tarnish the image of him.”

The former military ruler also urged the government to show proper respect to the Nobel Laureate.
