9 cops sued over death of ex-army officer Sinha Sinha Md Rashed Khan

COX’S BAZAR: A case has been filed against nine policemen over the death of former army major Sinha Md Rashed Khan in police firing at a checkpoint in Cox’s Bazar.

Sharmin Shahrier Ferdous, elder sister of Sinha, filed the case in Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court.

Suspended Inspector Liakat Ali of Baharchhara police outpost and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Teknaf police station Pradeep Kumar Das were among the accused.

Taking the case into cognizance, Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah asked authorities concerned to submit the probe report within seven working days.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) will investigate the case in cooperation with local police concerned.

Earlier on July 31, Sinha was killed in a police firing at Baharchhara police check-post.

Two people were arrested and two separate cases were filed in this regard.

On August 2, the home ministry formed a four-member committee, headed by Mizanur Rahman, additional divisional commissioner (development).

The authorities on Sunday suspended 21 police officers, including the in-charge of Baharchhara police outpost, in connection with the killing.
