MEHERPUR: The half-day, called by Chhatra Shibir, is underway in four districts of Khulna division- Chuadanga, Meherpur, Jhenidah and Kushtia- on Sunday.
The student wing of Jamaat is enforcing the shutdown protesting the killing incident of Shibir activist by police firing.
Witnesses said that putting tree logs and setting fire on roads the hartal supporters tried to put blockade on roads at around 6:00am.
Meanwhile, no untoward situation was reported in Kushtia yet. And shops are opening with the presence of law enforcers.
Besides, five platoons Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel were deployed ahead of hartal.
On the other hand, Shibir activists brought out sudden procession in Chuadanga, Damurhuda, Jibannagar, Alamdanga and Darshana.
Chuadanga District Jamaat Amir Anwarul Islam and District Chhatra Shibir president Belal Hossain told banglanews, “Protesting the police killing incident the hartal is being observed.”
Chuadanga District Police Super Abdur Rahim Shah Chowdhury told banglanews, “Additional law enforcers were deployed in the area to avoid untoward situation.”
On Thursday, Islami Chhatra Shibir called a half-day hartal in four southwestern districts-Chuadanga, Meherpur, Jhenidah and Kushtia-for Sunday protesting killing of a party activist in police firing in Chuadanga.
