DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday categorically said current parliament sitting can continue till the announcement of schedule for general elections.
The premier came up with the observation while addressing a central working committee meeting of Awami League at Ganabhaban in the city.
She said, “There is no constitutional barrier for continuing the parliament session after October 24 as previous election was held on December 29, 2008 and Awami League sworn in on January 6.”
Sheikh Hasina added: “The first session of the parliament was assembled on January 25 and as per the constitution the incumbent government’s tenure will come to end on January 25.” She added.
She also urged opposition men to go through the constitution instead of creating anarchy in the name of a movement.
