BD-US sign counter-terrorism deal

DHAKA: An agreement was signed between the Bangladesh government and US with a view to taking initiatives to prevent terrorism.

Senior secretary for the Home Ministry, CQK Mustaq Ahmed and US Ambassador to Bangladesh Dan W Mozena signed the ‘Bangladesh-US Counterterrorism Cooperation Initiative’ agreement at the home ministry on Tuesday.

The objective of the initiative is to enhance counter-terrorism cooperation between the US and Bangladesh government as an important element of bilateral relations between two countries.

As per the Counterterrorism agreement there are several initiatives were taken  like enhance capabilities to act against money laundering to prevent the financing of terrorism, cooperation with  a view toward developing comprehensive cyber security by mutual consent,  cooperation on ensuring port and border security, capacity building in the study analysis of terrorism activities and policy.

The agreement emphasized on mutual understanding and sharing between two countries in a bid to counter terrorism.

Agreement emphasized on sharing best practices between two countries and further develop capabilities to prevent weapons of mass destruction from being obtained by terrorist groups and other criminal works, sharing expertise in managing the aftermath of terrorist incidents, enhancing the exchange and sharing of best practices, including through training on counter terrorism cooperation and discussions on additional goals and activities for the cooperation between both country.

Along with the clear objectives, the two countries reaffirm the intention to combat terrorism at national, regional and global levels.
