Savar: Good news for students desperately seeking scope for higher education as Jahangirnagar University is going to open three new faculties and four departments.

The faculties are Medical, Engineering and Fine Arts while the departments are Media Studies, Comparative Literature, Women Studies, and Law.

JU Vice-chancellor Professor Sharif Enamul Kabir informed the annual Senate meeting Friday about the latest step.

At present, some 11,000 students are studying at 27 departments and two institutes under four faculties of the university on the outskirts of the capital. The number of students will substantially increase with new intakes for the new faculties and departments.

Some 70 senate members attended the meeting, presided over by the VC.

Pro-VC (education) Professor Dr. Mohammad Muniruzzaman, Pro-VC (Administration) Professor Farhad Hossain and Treasurer Professor Dr. Nasir Uddin also spoke.

The senate passed a TK 77-crore budget for the university for the FY 2010-11.
