CHITTAGONG: At least 12 shops and 18 shanties were gutted in a devastating fire at Askar Dhighir Uttarpar in the port city on Sunday morning.
The origination of fire could not be confirmed yet.
Witnesses said that the fire originated at around 6:10am and soon engulfed the whole market.
On information, eight fire fighting units rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control after a two-hour frantic effort.
City detective police inspector Mostafiz Bhuiyan told banglanews, “As the market was made by tin and woods, the fire spread out quickly.”
Chittagong Fire Service and Civil Defense office Deputy Assistant Director Jasim Uddin confirmed the matter to banglanews.
The extent of loss from the fire could not be known immediately.
