Paypal’s no to Bangladesh!

DHAKA: The International online payment gateway ‘Paypal’ has said Bangladesh ‘No’ in a straightway. The organization has clearly informed that they cannot start operation in Bangladesh right now.

A dependable source informed that accusing financial mismanagement Paypal has decided not to come over here. This ‘no’ has put about 50 thousand freelancers of this country who work for foreign organizations remain unresolved.

But the Bangladesh concerned people still expects that though Paypal has turned their face now would definitely start their operation within 2015.

When contacted, the Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank (BB) M. Mahfujur Rahman told banglanews that it is right that Paypal is not coming to Bangladesh at the moment but not due to any weakness of financial mismanagement.

He told that our all policies are very much in conformity with their standard. The organization has informed us they will come here after developing new software for South Asia. Informing this Chief Executive of Paypal has sent us a letter. However we will try to bring them here as early as possible.

Speaking about this the president of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) Shamim Ahsan told Banglanews that it is unfortunate for us that beside co-operations extended by BB and BASIS the organization Paypal took negative step. But we will be trying to bring Paypal as early as possible.
Shamim Ahsan informed that our freelancers earned revenue of 4 crore dollars last year. Even the software organizations earned more 10 crore dollars. Out of these it is assumed that more 8 crore dollars were earned. Within next 5 years this income will rise to 100 crore dollars. Paypal must be brought here for the sake of recognized income at a minimum cost.

Sources informed that for the last two years we were expecting that Paypal is coming here in Bangladesh.  That would help the online freelancers and web entrepreneurs will feel comfortable to bring the foreign currency. Right now about 50 thousand freelancers are working in the country and the number will reach 60 thousand next year.

BB sources said that Paypal has informed that US based Paypal is not going to start operation in

Bangladesh now.  This financial organization which started its operation in 1993 in Europe has pointed to the weakness in the financial mismanagement as the cause of their negative attitude.

BB has been working for the last two years to bring them here. BB governor Dr. Atiur Rahman on different occasions said that Paypal is coming here in the current year.

Sources told that in September last year a delegation from the International head office of Paypal visited

Bangladesh. At that time they held meeting with various government departments. Various legal aspects were also discussed.

At their head office in California an opinion regarding the risks of online payment in Bangladesh were submitted. Practically the negative attitude of Paypal developed from their opinion.
Paypal is now operating in 193 countries across the world. About 13 crore 70 lakhs people are enjoying the facilities of their service. This organization makes transactions in 26 types of currencies.

The 50 thousand freelancers can earn up to 400 hundred dollars on an average. But they are earning only 15 dollars now annually on average. Some of them can earn even 3 to 4 thousand dollars monthly. But there is no scope to bring more than 500 dollars thorough legal channel. Had Paypal could start operation here then this complicacies would no longer exist.

Mentionable that Paypal will be making a transactions of 2 thousand crore dollars. The present Paypal is operating as a sub-organ of EBAY incorporate. In 2002 EBAY of USA purchased the ownership of Paypal.

Bangladesh made all the finalization to get the services of Paypal very soon. For this reason various reforms with regards to foreign currency were brought. Still the organization showed their back in the name software limitations. Concerned sources disclosed this information.
