Former election commissioner Mahbub Talukdar dies

Former Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder passed away on Wednesday (Aug 24) at United Hospital in the capital.

“He fell ill around 12 o'clock. Later, he was taken to United Hospital. He died around 1:00 pm,” his eldest daughter Irin Mahbub said. 

He was suffering from cancer for a long time.

Mahbub Talukdar was born on 13 February, 1942 in Purbadhala upazila of Netrakona.

On 15 February, 2017, He was sworn in as a member of the five-member Election Commission headed by the then Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda.

He received the Bangla Academy Award for his special contribution to children's literature in 2012. 

Mahbub Talukdar and his wife Nilufar Begum have two daughters and a son.
