Death toll from Kushtia filling station fire reaches 5

The death toll from the fire at a filling station in Bheramara Upazila of Kushtia rose to five with the death of another at a hospital in the capital on early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Bidyut Hossain, 25, an accountant of the filling station and a resident of Daulatpur Upazila. The victim was the son of Billal Hossain and hailed from Porankhali area of Juniadaha Union of the Upazila.

Bidyut, who sustained 16 percent burn injuries during the fire incident at the filling station, died at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery around 2am, said victime's cousin Mahabul Islam.

Bheramara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mojibur Rahman said five people died so far in fire incident. 

None was arrested as there was no complaint in this regard, he said, adding the matter is under investigation by the police.

On August 12, the fire broke out at Dafadar Filling Station in Mahishdoba area around 8 pm while unloading fuel from an oil tanker.

Two workers—Shahajul, son of Shahajuddin and Bijoy, son of Touhidul Islam of Digholkandi village in Bheramara upazila—died on the spot while three people sustained burn injuries.

On Aug 18, Rimon, a worker Rajib succumbed to his injuries at the hospital while on Aug 21, another worker Rajib died at the hospital.
