DHAKA: Defying a recommendation of the technical committee of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) for grounding an aircraft of the GMG Airlines, the private airliner is operating flights with its faulty MD-80 carrier.

The technical committee of the CAAB in April recommended grounding the airplane after its inspector had detected irregularities in the aircraft, sources said.

Aviation expert Kazi Wahidul Alam told banglanews24.com.bd that if any aircraft wants to fly over an altitude of 29 thousand feet, it must get permission from the CAAB according to aviation rules.

“The GMG has been operating its MD-80 on daily basis without permission of the authority and it is a clear violation of the CAAB rules,” he said.

When contacted, GMG Airlines General Manager (Sales) Monirul Islam said that they were not aware of any recommendations made by the CAAB technical team for their aircraft.

CAAB Director (Flight Safety and Regulations) Wing Commander M Kamrul Islam did not want to make any comment on the matter.
