BNP leaders would’ve been hanged if Hasina wasn’t ousted: Rizvi

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that all BNP leaders involved in the anti-government movement would have been executed if Sheikh Hasina had not been ousted in last year’s mass uprising.

Speaking at the biannual conference of Meghna Upazila BNP in Cumilla on Saturday (February 15), Rizvi said, “A ruler who can take the life of a four-year-old child to cling to power would have no hesitation in hanging us.”

Rizvi discussed the 17-year struggle for democracy, freedom of speech, and civil liberties, stating that the BNP had been relentlessly fighting against severe oppression and persecution under Sheikh Hasina’s rule.

“Had Sheikh Hasina not fallen on August 5, every one of us would have been hanged,” he added.

The BNP leader also paid tribute to the students who sacrificed their lives for Bangladesh’s freedom, stressing that the country would never have witnessed freedom without their bravery.
