BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that political parties will reach a 'minimal consensus' on state reforms through talks, paving the way for a swift national election.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting with the National Consensus Commission on Saturday (Feb 15), he said discussions will center around the reports of the reform commissions.
"Political parties will engage in talks with the commissions, and efforts will be made to reach a consensus," he stated.
Political parties made various remarks during the initial discussions and hoped for a consensus on the reforms to enable quick national elections, he added.
The meeting, led by Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus, began around 3 pm at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.
Delegations from major political parties, including BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, LDP, Jatiya Party, and others, participated in the first meeting with the National Consensus Commission.
