A drone show held at Manik Mia Avenue to commemorate the July uprising and celebrate Pohela Boishakh drew criticism after it failed to mention Chhatra Dal leader martyr Wasim Akram.
The event paid tribute to martyrs Abu Sayed and Mir Mughdo but excluded Akram, prompting backlash from the BNP’s student wing.
In a Facebook post, Chhatra Dal General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir condemned the omission, calling it a “deliberate attempt” to erase Wasim Akram’s sacrifice in the fight for democracy.
He said that Akram had previously been excluded from textbooks and criticized the National Citizen Party (NCP) for also neglecting to mention Akram in their inaugural event.
“Shaheed Wasim Akram wrote history with his own blood,” Nasir said. “He will live on in the democratic consciousness of the people,” he added.
He also said that democratic student leaders are being depoliticized today. Fighters like Wasim Akram are being erased from history, he said.
