A local Awami League leader was arrested in Sylhet’s Moulvibazar for alleged attack on a student during anti-discrimination protest.

The arrestee Jewel Ahmed, is Information and Research Secretary of Kamalganj Upazila and Chairman of Shamshernagar Union Parishad. 

Kamalganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Syed Iftekhar Hossain confirmed the matter.

He said that police detained him around 2am on Tuesday.

Jewel was produced before the district court on Wednesday, he said.

The case was filed over an attack on students participating in a protest against discrimination, the OC added.
