DHAKA: Noted film director Chashi Nazrul Islam on Friday opined that English medium school should be closed as students are not habituating the national culture there.
The film personality came up with the remarks while addressing a discussion titled “Question Paper Leaks, Education in Peril, Way Forward” organized by Bangladesh Kindergarten Teachers’ Association at the VIP Lounge of National Press Club in the city.
Nazrul said, “English medium students are not habituating the Bengali language and culture rather they are changing these, so the English medium should be closed.”
“English exists and it will be; it does not mean Bengali will be forgotten, English will have to be begun reading from class VII or VII. We read it at Class VIII; English is a good way of communication, does it mean that Bengali will be forgotten,” he added.
Presided over by association advisor Akbar Hossin Nantu, BNP standing committee member lieutenant general Mahabubur Rahman attended the function as chief guest.
Peshjibee leader Ruhul Amin Gazi, teachers’ leaders principal Selim Bhuiyan and Zakir Hossain, among others, also joined there.
